Acupuncture & Meridian Therapy

Acupuncture has the potential to influence and regulate all physiological processes within the body. It affects circulation, muscle tone, nerve signals and energy flow in the meridians. Meridians are a complex network of energy pathways that connect all areas of the body and regulate body functions.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses thin, sterile needles to gently stimulate specific points along the meridians to alleviate pain and promote healing. Clinical trials have found acupuncture to be very effective for a large variety of conditions, making acupuncture a great option for treating both chronic and acute conditions.

Acupuncture is not the only way to direct the flow of energy within the meridians.

A variety of techniques can be applied to open the meridians and stimulate the acupuncture points without the use of needles, including: massage, moxibustion, cupping, guasha, aromatherapy, acupressure seeds and tacks. These therapies can be a great addition to acupuncture treatment, or a great alternative for those who aren’t comfortable with needles.

massage therapy

Massage Therapy

Techniques such a acupressure, reflexology, shiatsu, and tui na have been used for centuries to manipulate the flow of energy, blood, and lymph throughout the body to create balance and healing, much in the same way acupuncture is used. Our massage methods focus not only on the body’s musculo-skeletal system, but also meridians and acupressure points to create deeper therapeutic results, eliminate pain, restore balance, and recover from injury.

moxibustion therapy

Moxibustion

Artemisia vulgaris, or mugwort, is an herb that is used to build warmth and energy in the body. One of the original acupuncture texts is titled “Acupuncture and Moxibustion” indicating what an integral role moxibustion plays in acupuncture therapy.

Acupuncture cupping on woman's back

Cupping & Gua Sha

In cupping therapy glass cups are used to create suction on the skin. This suction is a powerful tool for extracting toxins, pathogens, and other forms of stagnation. Gua Sha literally translates as scraping sand. It is a gentle scraping of the skin to release pathogens from deep in the body out to the surface for elimination.  Gua sha is traditionally used to stimulate the immune system and ward off the onset of the common cold and flu, but it is also very effective at alleviating chronic pain and tension.

Electro-Acupuncture

“E-stim” or electric stimulation, is a modern technique using frequencies that pulse through the channels, to establish a flow of energy that connects the needles along the meridian or muscle. Electro-acupuncture is very effective for relieving pain, releasing muscular tension, and reducing inflammation.

acupressure ear seeds

Seeds & Press Tacks

Small seeds or tacks can be applied to gently stimulate acupuncture points on the ear and throughout the body to continue the therapeutic effect in between acupuncture appointments. There are very effective combinations that can be applied on the ears to help reduce stress and anxiety, control ones appetite and food cravings, and eliminate addictions.

lavender blossoms and essential oil

Aromatherapy

Essential oils have a profound therapeutic effect on the mental, emotional, and physical body. When applied to synergistic points on the meridians their effects are magnified.
